Thirty Seven young men from 8 Battalions across Scotland joined together for an enjoyable and interesting weekend, where they were set a number of challenges and learned some new skills. Many new friendships were formed, and the "Adopt a Borders Boy" scheme meant that even those from large local groups were able to take a full and active part in activities with Boys from other areas. Boys from the West were even able to work through the language barrier and by the end of the weekend were conversing happily with those from ELA.
The
chaplain got a wee hurl on Iain's trike (and still hasn't come
down!), We won't be at all surprised if he turns up at the
Presentation Ceremony wearing a leather jacket with his kilt!!
On checking dates, the wee boy at the front was found not to meet the
current age requirements for Queen's Badge and may be required to
attend a later
course. Young Men from East
Lowland and beyond were presented with Queen's Badge, Duke
of Edinburgh's Award and Millennium Volunteers Certificates
by Mrs Isobel Brydie MBE, Lord Lieutenant of West
Lothian. The presentation took place in Bathgate High
Church on the evening of Wednesday 7th June 2006; hosted by
West Lothian Battalion, and was preceded by a parade,
march-past and inspection of the ranks. Lt. Duncan Hepburn
(1st Kirkliston Company) was presented with a Certificate
marking his achievement of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh's
Award. He is pictured here with Tom Boyle, Director
for Scotland.
